Just looked it up. 1st level magic-user spell in UA. Range is touch. Allows the caster to etch in metal, stone, "or any softer substance" without harm to the etched material (it doesn't say outright not to write on individuals but it appears to imply it; the saving throw is "none"). The mark may be invisible, in which case it can be revealed only with detect invisible or detect magic.

Found no "dye pack" version (though a 2nd level spell might be a good option to add to the Guards and Wards "package").

Very well could be, JB. It sure seems familiar from somewhere. I don't have UA any longer to check.

I'm almost positive "wizard mark" is a magic-user spell in the Unearthed Arcana, but I don't have my book to verify.

Dye pack version is definitely new (unless there's some minor curse effect in Guards & Wards that I'm forgetting).
