Well, as readers know, this blog kind of comes and goes. I’ll get in a groove for a week or three, then things go nearly dead silent for months at a time. A lot of this has to do with the fact that I’ve got a lot of other non-game-related writing I do in my so-called free time which actually pays real actual money, so those always take first priority over this gaming silliness.
However, I’ve recently made the decision to take a few gaming-related projects, dedicate some real time to them, and get them out into the world. I’ve gone to the length of blocking off my writing time for these projects except when prior paying commitments need to be completed. The past two weeks have seen me spend more time writing game material than the previous two years had, and I’ve made a lot of headway.
Though these are intended as for-purchase supplements, there will be free previews and extras available on the blog as they near completion. Also, I’m seeing a lot of additional things percolate into my mind as I focus on gaming like never before, and some of that will doubtlessly surface here as well.
I don’t want to go into too much detail about the upcoming projects at this point. They are things that I’ve longed to work on for several years but have repeatedly pushed back while I spent my time writing other stuff. The first couple are spell-related and, if I write them well enough, should fit easily into nearly any oldschool-type fantasy game. The other biggie is a setting that I feel has a ton of gaming potential, but it’s a huge project and my initial plan to get it out ASAP has taken a back seat as I come to grips with the amount of work it’s going to require. My goal is to write these the way *I’d* want something written, and I’m gambling that others will want it that way, too.
None of these projects are directly related to our homebrewed Wizards & Warriors game, which, sadly, has so much ripped-off material in it that I don’t even want to contemplate making it publishable. Besides, every time we sit down to test something or play a bit, we change tons of things on the fly. It will never be “finished,” and that’s okay with us. There is no shortage of games out there, though, and more are coming out all the time. And, of course, the originals remains a very good option. So there’s no reason to even want to publish W&W, as far as I can see.
So keep checking in. I will be trying to post here more often on a range of subjects and I will also be spending a little more time on some of the forums. And, even if I don’t post here as often as I would like, rest assured that this time it’s not because I don’t have time for gaming.
